The Turkey-Kurdistan conflict first began towards the end of the Cold War in 1990 in Turkey. At this time a Kurdistan separatist movement emerged and began to suppress the Kurdish people, first by attempting to eliminate their political representation within the country. This eventually led to the first violent outbreak in 1992, where the Kurdish Worker's Party (PPK) announced a war government.
